Today we took Annabelle to the doctor for her 9 month check up. She was right where the doctor would like her to be for height/weight/head circumference. The doctor isn't worried about her decrease in appetite, but is encouraging us to start giving her foods to self feed herself. She recommends that we start giving her foods that we are eating - mashed potatoes, veggies, etc. She also checked her physical abilities - standing, sitting, pincer grasp and she is right where she should be. She says that she might take a little longer than the average baby to start pulling up because of how big she is, but nothing to be worried about.
We also discussed her potential wheat allergy and the doctor said that we should go ahead and get her tested. For the wheat allergy, our pediatrician recommended doing the test using blood instead of skin prick. If it comes back negative, she most likely has an intolerance which she will grow out of (most likely) but if she comes back positive then it's a true allergy which they don't normally outgrow. We decided to go ahead and have it done that day. If you hate getting your blood drawn, seeing your 9 month old get theirs drawn is a zillion times worse. I had to sit in the chair in the lab and hold her tight against me so that she didn't move. Then the lab tech who draws the blood got her vein all ready and two other techs held her arm tight so that it didn't move. She cried - I did not. I was seriously proud of myself!
Annabelle also got her flu shot in this visit. All in all, it was an interesting appointment, but glad to at least have the testing started.
